Obituary of Eleanor E. Filion

Posted on January 1, 1970 by New York Death Notices

Eleanor Evelyn (Robarge) Filion was born on August 13, 1926 to Clara Euetta (Palmer) Robarge and John Chauncey Robarge of Elm Street, Champlain, NY, and passed away on October 16, 2022, with her family by her side.

Eleanor graduated from Champlain Central School on June 26, 1945. There were 18 in her class – the largest class to graduate since the school started. Finishing school was very important to Eleanor. In her life, she encouraged many people she loved to finish their education.

On September 23, 1950, she married Joseph A. Filion at St. Mary’s Church by Father Howard McCasland.

She was most proud of being a Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother. She would light up whenever she saw or spoke to one of them. She loved them all the same. She had seven children, Patricia (Gene) Gladd, Constance (James) Wells deceased, Vickie (Stephen deceased) Douglas, Mary (Tom) Shutts, Larry (Susan) Filion, Margaret (Yves) Bordeleau, Timothy (Sheryl) Filion. Eleanor had 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was called “MOM” by so many others who came into her life.

Eleanor worked at Champlain Laundry and Dry Cleaners with her best friend Jane Boulerice. Eleanor also worked at the Ski Shop punching holes in tennis racquets, and at Delagar Products painting soaps. She was well known for making her beautiful wedding, anniversary, and birthday cakes for all occasions.

She was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary #767 and was also a member of the Ladies of St. Ann’s.

Eleanor will be joining her husband, daughter, parents, and sisters in Heaven.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at 11 am at St. Mary’s Church in Champlain. Committal prayers and burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery on Oak Street in Champlain, NY.

In memory of Eleanor, donations can be sent to Champlain/Mooers EMS, 1150 State Route 11, Champlain, NY 12919; St. Mary’s Church, 86 Church Street, Champlain, NY 12919; or Hospice, 358 Tom Miller Rd, Plattsburgh, NY 12901.
