Russell D. Brown, 62, of Floyd, passed away at his home on Sunday, July 1, 2012. He was born on September 5, 1949 in Washington D.C.; a son of the late Dr. Richard Vernal and Virginia DeAtley Brown of Bethesda, MD; and is survived by his siter Lauara B. Jeffery and her husband Christopher V. Jeffery of Rockville, MD.
He was a 1967 graduate of Walter Johnson High School in Bethesda, MD. Russell then graduated from the University of Maryland and received a BS in Electrical Engineering in 1972 and his MS in 1973. In 1995, he received a Doctorate in Electrical Engineering from Syracuse University, specializing in Adaptive Polari-Metric Processors for Multiband and Multiscan Radars.
Russell faithfully served his country as a Captain in Communications-Electronics in the United States Air Force. He was honorably discharged in 1977. Russell retired as a civilian in the Federal government in 2004 from Rome Air Development Center at Griffiss Air Force Base. He was an Engineering Specialist with Stiefvater Consultants and President of MSB Technologies, Inc. Russell was an active member of the Rome Radio Club and Amateur Radio Communications. He was also an accomplished pianist.
